Three things worth knowing first

  1. Which shape of hood. Wall, island, ceiling, a liner inside a built canopy, or a downdraft that rises out of the counter.
  2. Where the sound is. At the canopy, up in the ceiling, or outside. That tells us whether the blower is internal, in the duct or remote.
  3. What still works. Lights on, one speed or all of them, and whether the filters have been out recently. Small answers, large shortcuts.

  • Hood sounded strong but grease still settled on the cabinets. He measured the airflow, showed me the house was sealed too tight for it, then fitted a make-up air damper. Enormous difference.
